Journalism and India

The contribution of Media in the downfall of India is unparalleled. Start of the last decade, India as a country was growing at 8.48% annual GDP. We saw some huge corruption cases and India media was hell bent to expose any corruption case by the government or the affiliates of people in the govt. They were doing sting operations, exposing scams like Vadra Deal, CWG, Coal, grilling politicians and helping people take the right decision when the elections were due.

By the time the then current govt ended it's tenure, we were growing at 7.41% annual GDP. Narendra Modi won with a whopping majority and at the same time the world started to show a decline in global oil index making it profitable for countries who import oil from Middle East. India had this new energy with the new govt and investments were pouring in. GDP saw a positive hit and we reached almost the place we were 6 years ago. One fine evening came a bizarre, Ill planned, stupid and unnecessary decision of Demonetization that broke the limbs and spine of Indian Economy. The GDP fell down from 8.26% to 4.18% in three years. At that point in time, Media should have asked questions to the govt. Instead, they started to praise everything that Narendra Modi did. They started to plant fake news to glorify how great the decision was even when the results in the ground were completely opposite. Government's own Economic Survey, World Bank Report, Rating Agencies and the in-house world renowned economists kept saying it was a wrong decision and govt should take corrective actions. But media kept doing what we call "Mahima Mandan" of the emperor. Same media houses, 10 years ago were after the lives of people in power but started questioning the opposition instead of government - it was the commencement of the New Normal. In the last 8 years, intolerance (religious and political) have seen a spike like never before. Media houses played an important role in achieving that. They planted edited videos, fake narratives and started to target people who were questioning the govt. They started behaving like govt agencies. They started planting the narrative that Narendra Modi is holier than thou and anyone asking questions to Narendra Modi is actually against the nation. The narrative was so deep planted that families started to split based on political ideologies. Every day, every night the same narrative was served. Hooliganism in the form of news debate was the new normal. Attacking opposition was seen as the nationalist movement. They kept doing it over and over again and as Human Beings, many fell into the trap. They unknowingly got brainwashed by the continuous feed of propaganda and reached to a point of no return.
Time has this unique property - it changes. When time of the current emperor will be over, we will realize what have we become by doing hero worshipping.

Ambedkar once said :

"Bhakti, in religion, may be a road to the salvation of the soul. But in politics, Bhakti or hero-worship, is a sure road to degradation and to eventual dictatorship."

People learn this by experience. We are in the middle of this transition. Once completed, we will realize how bad the decision was. Most responsible will be the Media which when asked to bend, They Crawled.
